Much like the central Arc de Triomphe (that which offers fantastic views of the Eiffel Tower and is often featured on postcards of the city), the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon to commemorate his military victories, and specifically those in Austria. Constructed between 1806 and 1808, where the arch now stands.. The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel (architects Percier and Fontaine) was built between 1806 and 1808 by Napoleon I following the model of the Arch of Constantine in Rome. The two arches conceived by Napoleon, Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel and the Arc de Triomphe de l'Etoile, were erected to commemorate his victories, and the grand armies he had.

Place du Carrousel from the southern wing of the Louvre Palace. The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is on the left. The Place du Carrousel (French pronunciation: [plas dy kaʁuzɛl]) is a public square in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, located at the open end of the courtyard of the Louvre Palace, a space occupied, prior to 1883, by the Tuileries Palace... The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel in Paris, designed primarily by architect Jean-François-Thérèse Chalgrin and Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 after his victory over the Third Coalition at Austerlitz in 1805 to celebrate not only that event but his other victories. Construction took one year from 1807.
